Talladega Superspeedway was originally called Alabama International Motor Speedway. Construction on the speedway began on May 23, 1968. The first NASCAR Sprint Cup race was held on September 14, 1969. The track name was changed to Talladega Superspeedway in 1989 and most recently had its fourth repaving on September 19, 2006. Dale Earnhardt currently holds the most wins at Talladega with 10, and Bill Elliott holds the pole-sitter record with eight poles.
